Levitra vs. Viagra
Does Levitra Work Better than Viagra?
Although Viagra is one of the most popular treatments available currently for erectile dysfunction, there are other treatments available that may work better for some people. Below is a comparison of Viagra and one of its top competitors, Levitra.
Who Makes These Drugs?
Levitra is manufactured and marketed by BayerAG and by GlaxoKlineSmith. The drug received FDA approval in 2003 for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Viagra is manufactured and marketed by Pfizer. The drug received FDA approval in 1998. Viagra was the first approved oral treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED).

How These Drugs Work?
Both Levitra and Viagra work the same way. Erections occur when the smooth muscle in the penis relaxes so that blood can flow into the penis and lead to an erection. An enzyme known as cGMP instigates the relaxation of these muscles. However, PDE-5 decreases the amount of available cGMP which makes it more difficult for the muscles to relax sufficiently. Both of these drugs stop PDE-5 from causing this action and that means more cGMP is available and patients have an easier time achieving an erection.
What Ingredients are Found in These Drugs?
The active ingredient in Levitra is Vardenafil. Doses of the ingredient range from 2.5 to 20 milligrams in the pills. Levitra also includes a number of inactive ingredients including magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, titanium dioxide, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal silicon dioxide, and coloring additives.
On the other hand, Viagra’s active ingredient is Sildenafil. Doses of the ingredient include 25, 50, and 100 milligrams. Additionally, Viagra includes some of the same inactive ingredients, such as microcrystalline cellulose and magnesium stearate. Viagra also includes calcium hydrogen phosphate and croscarmellose.
Which Drug Treats ED Best?
Both of the drugs have been shown to be effective in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. However, some people may respond better to one active ingredient or the other. In some cases, they may want to try one of the medications first and if they are unhappy with the results try a different drug to treat their problem.
